Where to start
Great Alaskan Holidays, Inc. is the heavyweight in town, with 4.4 stars from 1,118 reviews. That volume means they've seen every kind of buyer, and their parts department is a plus for owners. Frontier Auto & RV Sales is the other full-service option, offering financing, service, parts, and trade-ins. They carry used motorhomes and travel trailers too, and their 4.1 rating from 202 reviews suggests solid, if not perfect, satisfaction. For a smaller, more personal experience, Alaska RV Trip has a perfect 5.0 from 9 reviews. AkMotorhome sells new and used, with a 3.6 average from 30 reviews, so check the details before you go. Your best bet is to start with the big names, then branch out if you don't find what you want.
Used and new inventory
Four of the nine dealers list used motorhomes, and three also carry travel trailers. That gives you some crossover if you're considering a towable instead. New motorhomes are less common; AkMotorhome is the only one with new listings in our data. If you're set on new, call ahead to see what's on the lot. Used units often come with more wiggle room on price, but condition varies widely. Always get a pre-purchase inspection from an independent mechanic, especially on older models. And don't skip the walk-through at delivery; that's when you'll learn how everything works and spot issues before you drive off.
Financing and service
Only one dealer in Anchorage advertises financing, so you may need to arrange your own loan. Getting pre-approved from your bank or credit union gives you a clear budget and bargaining power. Even if a dealer offers financing, compare rates. Service is another consideration; Frontier Auto & RV Sales has a service department, which is handy for warranty work or maintenance. Other dealers may have partners or recommend local shops. Ask about service before you buy, especially if you're new to motorhomes. And check the parts department if you plan to do your own upkeep. A good service relationship can make ownership much easier.
